Introduction
Maika ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use the Maika women's health and cycle tracking mobile application.
Your health data is sensitive — we collect only what is necessary to provide the service, we never sell it, and you can delete it at any time.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address — used to create and authenticate your account
- User ID — a randomly generated identifier assigned at registration (never your email)
Profile & Health Data You Provide
- Date of birth, height, weight
- Cycle data: period start and end dates, cycle length, flow intensity (spotting, light, medium, heavy, very heavy)
- Daily logs: mood, energy level, libido, skin condition, symptoms, and personal notes
- Health goals: your selected goal (e.g., regulate cycles, conceive, wellness)
- Reminders: titles and times you set for health reminders
AI Chat Messages
When you use the Maika AI chat feature, your messages are processed by Anthropic's Claude AI. Relevant anonymous context (your current cycle phase, general health goal category) may be included to improve response quality. We do not send your name, email, or personally identifying information to the AI service.
How We Store Your Data
All account and health data is stored on servers operated by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the EU (Frankfurt, eu-central-1) region. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard AES-256 and TLS 1.2+.
AI chat context embeddings are stored in Supabase (hosted in the EU). These are anonymised vector representations used only to improve relevance of AI responses — they do not contain your personal information.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your account
- To track and display your cycle history and health patterns
- To personalise content (tips, articles, insights) to your cycle phase and health goal
- To power the AI chat assistant with context relevant to your cycle
- To send push notifications for reminders you have set (only if you grant permission)
- To generate your insights reports (mood by phase, energy patterns, symptom trends)
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. Your data is shared only with:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): Infrastructure provider. Stores your account and health data in the EU. aws.amazon.com/privacy
- Anthropic (Claude AI): Processes your AI chat messages with anonymous cycle context. anthropic.com/privacy
- Supabase: Hosts anonymised AI context vectors in the EU. supabase.com/privacy
- RevenueCat: Processes in-app subscription purchases. We share only your anonymous user ID — never your health data. revenuecat.com/privacy
- Apple App Store / Google Play: Handle payment processing for subscriptions, subject to their respective privacy policies.
Device Permissions
- Push Notifications: Used to deliver health reminders you have created. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or within the app.
Maika does not request access to your camera, photos, contacts, location, or calendar.
Data Security
- All data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS
- All data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) in AWS
- Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito with secure token management
- API endpoints are rate-limited to prevent abuse
- Health data is never included in server logs
Your Rights and Control (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under GDPR:
- Access: View all your health data within the app at any time
- Correction: Edit your profile and health logs at any time within the app
- Deletion: Delete your account and all data permanently via Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible
- Portability: Contact us to request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: Contact us if you object to any processing of your data

Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data and health logs are permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated statistics (not linked to you) may be retained longer.
Children's Privacy
Maika is intended for individuals who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Medical Disclaimer
Maika is not a medical device and must not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The AI chat assistant and all content in the app provide general wellness information only. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical concerns.
Maika is not intended for use as a contraceptive method. Cycle tracking data is for informational purposes only.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
